Beaches in the Western Cape of South Africa
The Cape Town area is home to some of the most beautiful beaches in the world. There are beaches for individuals, couples, and families to enjoy. Cape Town's beaches are popular with both local residents and tourists to the Western Cape. There are a variety of beaches to choose from. Those on the Atlantic Coast have cool waters and many restaurants that are easily accessible. Th off False Bay are warmer and less developed and more family-oriented.
Atlantic Ocean Beaches
South Africa has beaches that are known as the Cape Town Riviera. These can be found on the western side of Cape Peninsula along the Atlantic Coast. While these beaches are a bit colder than those on the Indian Ocean side they are more protected from the strong winds and enjoy more time in the sun.
The Table Bay beaches can be found north of the Atlantic Seaboard near Table Mountain and Robben Island. These beaches are great for surfing, swimming, windsurfing, and paddle skiing. Some of the beaches in this area are Table View, Dolphin, Milnerton, Blouberg's Big Bay and Little Bay.
The Western Cape beaches of the Atlantic Seaboard are where people go to be seen. They are also a great place to swim, sunbathe, and play volleyball.
Some delightful beaches on the Western Cape include Seapoint, Clifton, Camps Bay, Three Anchor Bay, Sandy Bay, and Hout Bay.
False Bay Beaches
The beaches along the Indian Ocean which is also known as the False Bay. These offer visitors a calmer and more relaxed environment. They are more family-oriented than their Atlantic Ocean counterparts although they can become equally busy during favourite times of the year.
The False Bay Beaches can be found along a curve that runs from the Helderberg on the eastern portion of the bay to Cape Point which can be found at the western end. The Helderberg Beaches include Gordon's Bay, Bikini Beach, Kogel Bay and Strand. These beaches are approximately forty-five minutes from Cape Town and are perfect for families and individuals who want to swim surf, beach walk, sunbathe, or fish. The False Bay Beaches include the Muizenberg, Fish Hoek, St. James, Glencairn, Boulders, Diaz Beach, and Smitswinkelbaai. These are best for individuals who want to swim, sunbathe, walk along the beach, surf or bodyboard.
No matter which of the Western Cape beaches you choose to visit you are sure to have a great time. If you decide that one beach has too much wind and not enough people another beach is only a short drive away. There are beaches for all ages and a range of activities the entire family can enjoy. From windsurfing to people watching, the beaches of the Western Cape of South Africa have it all.
