Ashton
General Information
Ashton is situated in the Western Cape Winelands of South Africa on the longest wine route in the world! Ashton is also the capital of the canning industry with two canning factories which offer group tours by arrangement. Ashton is situated on the R62, between Robertson and Swellendam, below the majestic Langeberg mountain range.
Activities
Take a cruise down the Breede River and enjoy the wines of Viljoensdrift on the banks of the river - light lunches are served. Try some rock climbing - two kilometers beyond Ashton, in CogmansKloof, are spectacular cliffs for rock climbing. There is the Old English Fort in CogmansKloof dating back to 1899 and the Anglo Boer War. The Steam Locomotive which is next to the Municipal Offices, was used on the Worcester-Mossel Bay rail section until 1983. View the Panoramic vista: follow the road markers to the viewing point for a spectacular view and excellent photo opportunities.
